Applications/Instructions

General Qualifying Criteria
• Project must have completed by December 2009
• Project must have taken place in San Diego County, California.
• Any individual or organization may submit a project. You do not need to be a PMI member to participate.
• You may submit any kind of project (business, government, non-profit, community service, etc.), but it must have a clearly defined start and end.
Categories:

Category 1: Small Size Company – Annual revenues less than $10 million
Category 2: Medium Size Company – Annual revenues greater than $10million and less than $100 million
Category 3: Large Size Company – Annual revenues $100 million or greater

Application fees:
Category 1: $300
Category 2: $450
Category 3: $600

Application fees waived for non-profit and government agencies

Judging Criteria

Projects will be judged based on the following weighted criteria:
o Application of PMBOK standards (25%)
o Achievement of project objectives (20%)
o Overcoming obstacles (20%)
o Adherence to cost and schedule (10%)
o Impact—financial and non-financial (20%)
o Innovation (05%)

Judges from other PMI chapters will force rank each project in each of these categories.

The winning project is the project with the highest overall score.

About the Project of the Year

The POY 2009 is one part of PMI-SD Outreach efforts to recognize and honor excellence in project management thereby raising the profile of Project Management as a profession and increasing the respect of the community for Project Managers. The award program recognizes and widely publicizes projects for superior performance and execution completed during the past year (2008-2009). The Awards will be delivered as part of PMI-SD's 7th Annual Conference.

What is the San Diego 2009 Project of the Year? A competition sponsored by the Project Management Institute – San Diego Chapter to find and recognize the best executed projects in 2009 and finds the Project of the Year.

Who can participate? Any company, organization, or person who has a project that they feel is worthy of being recognized as the project of the year.
